Sekhar Kammula’s Kuberaa, an intense emotional social drama and thriller, has been a huge success at the box office, grossing over ₹100 crore in just five days worldwide. This Dhanush, Nagarjuna, and Rashmika Mandanna-starrer film, released on June 20, 2025, has become a box-office hit as it managed to keep word of mouth positive with its strong content and performances. According to Gulte. com, “Kuberaa’s racy time and the trendsetting run till now is an indicator that has brought Tollywood from the clutches of lean months.

The film has gained critical acclaim for its powerful story and emotional quotient. Dhanush and Nagarjuna have received rave reviews for their raw and natural performances. Where Dhanush with a beggar to good guy story and Nagarjuna as a fake CBI officer who faces moral conflicts seems to have impressed the masses. The fantastic performance of the lead actors has also been enmeshed with the likes of Rashmika Mandanna, who has played the supporting but very supportive buddy, and Jim Sarbh, who becomes a subtle yet strong antagonist, to add to the film’s appeal. Kammula’s direction and the emotion-stirring background score of Devi Sri Prasad became the talking points, for both of them managed to infuse suspense and emotion into an intense, fast-moving script.

The box-office journey of Kubera has been extraordinary. The film had a good weekend and held well on weekdays, which is rare after any opening weekend. In North America, it is inching toward the $2 million mark, at $1.9 million and counting, reflecting its strong overseas pull. In India, the Telugu edition has been at the forefront, generating packed houses in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana thanks to positive buzz. The increase in ticket prices in Andhra Pradesh, which was a cause of concern, has been offset by largely packed halls both in India and overseas, indicating a wider audience appeal.

The good luck stroke that the movie has is also a critical moment for Telugu cinema, which in the past few months had not been successful in bringing people to theaters. The success of Kuberaa, produced by Suniel Narang and Puskur Ram Mohan Rao under Sree Venkateswara Cinemas, shows that a well-told story will drive theatres back. Kammula’s departure from his charming romance films to a grittier, socially significant thriller has paid off handsomely, as reviewers and fans have applauded him for his daring storytelling decisions and taut service.

While the Tamil version has seen mixed reception in Tamil Nadu, the Telugu market’s enthusiasm has more than compensated, pushing Kuberaa into the elite ₹100 crore club. With its emotional heft, technical brilliance, and star power, the film is poised to continue its strong run, especially with a relatively clear window before new releases like Kannappa hit screens on June 27. For now, Kuberaa stands as a testament to the enduring magic of cinema that blends heart, suspense, and social commentary—a true blockbuster in every sense.
